BlackYARD Engineering was established in 2017 as the result of a rebrand of Pacific Consultants Electrical Engineering (Wellington). At the core of the business is the partnerships we have with our clients, leading to our philosophy of working on interesting projects with interesting people. We love creating interesting solutions for our clients and as an agile business, we are able to adapt to different requirements, whilst always providing an exceptional and personal level of communication.
The four electrical engineers at BlackYARD Engineering have a combined 60 plus years experience between them, with all having at least 10 years individual experience in the electrical industry.
With the team being made up of Engineering New Zealand and CPENG members, honours graduates, and ex-Sparkys, you always have an experienced engineer working on your project.
Born and raised in Southland, Greig is the Managing Director of BlackYARD Engineering, and has been in the electrical industry since 1988. He is a professionally qualified electrical engineer, with a Bachelor Degree (with honours from the University of Canterbury) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and is an affiliated member of Engineering New Zealand and a Chartered Engineer
Prior to becoming an electrical engineer, Greig was employed at the Tiwai Point Aluminium Smelter in Bluff as an Industrial Electrician. Greig has also worked for Honeywell Building Services as a BMS Design Engineer and Project Manager.
With a work history encompassing a complimentary mix of both technical and practical experience, as well as project management and business skills, Greig has the ability to read each project and delivery accordingly.
Born and raised in the Waikato, Sean is a NZCE qualified Electrical Engineer. Prior to working with Greig, Sean worked as a commercial electrician in both New Zealand and the UK. As such, he is still an EWRB Registered Electrician holding a current Practising License. Sean is also our AutoCAD and Revit champion.
Sean’s electrical practising licence enables him to carry out prescribed electrical work, such as opening switchboards, to undertake detailed electrical condition assessments.
Sean’s practical work history is leveraged off on a day to day basis as a design engineer. Whether he is on site investigating electrical installations or developing a concept design through to a full set of contract documents, Sean’s combined skill set is with out parallel.
Born and raised in Wellington, Terry is a professionally qualified electrical engineer, with a Bachelor Degree (with honours from the University of Canterbury) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and is an affiliated member of Engineering New Zealand and a Chartered Engineer. Terry is also EWRB registered and holds a current electrical practising license.
Like Sean, Terry’s electrical practising licence enables him to carry out prescribed electrical work. He has a thorough understanding of the process contractors must follow when completing prescribed electrical work as well as practical knowledge of how electrical installations are carried out which enables him to design with installation and maintenance processes in mind.
Terry’s skills include technical knowledge in electrical building services, lighting and power design, Revit MEP, AutoCAD drawing and design, control systems, communications, and building efficiency and sustainability.
Born and raised in Sri Lanka, Sumudu is a professionally qualified electrical engineer, with a Bachelor Degree from The University of Auckland in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Sumudu is an affiliated member of Engineering New Zealand and a Chartered Engineer.
Sumudu has project experience in complex multi-disciplinary commercial, healthcare and laboratory buildings involving multiple stakeholder requirements. He has extensive experience in projects involving client liaison, preparation of design features reports, design documentation, attending design meetings, and construction monitoring.
Sumudu’s skills include technical knowledge in electrical building services, lighting and power design, Revit MEP, AutoCAD drawing and design, control systems, communications and building efficiency.
